our new pet

We've adopted a tadpole named Polly :) He's very large and is starting to sprout some froggie legs!! Because he's a temporary pet-his home is an empty tupperware container filled with pond water and rocks (and tadpole food of course)!! I think this is a great way for the boys to learn about how the process from tadpole to frog works! I lived for this stuff when I was a kid-so it's fun to do this with my little boys...

Fun Fact: we need to put rocks into the water so as his lungs develop he can breath outside of the water

Once this little guy is not so little anymore he'll go live with the other frogs out at the duck/frog pond around the corner so we can go visit him.

  1. i didn't know that about the rocks...maybe thats why all our tadpools died as a kid. :)

  2. And you can teach them about apoptosis, the programmed cell death that causes their tails to "disappear".
